TecDiveTools lists 52 dive centres teaching technical diving in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. 17 of them publish course prices, in the currency the shop advertises and with the date each was checked — not converted, and not estimated.
Listings are ordered by how much evidence exists about their technical diving, not by a star rating, with any paid Featured listing shown first and marked as such (how rankings work). 25 of these 52 carry reviews we have read and classified as being about technical or overhead training. The count excludes recreational certifications by name, so a busy resort does not outrank a one-instructor cave operation on the volume of its reef trips. Separately, 19 have at least one instructor whose reviews we have read and summarised — a dive centre carries no synthesis of its own. How we read and count reviews.

Playa del Carmen is on the Riviera Maya, close to many of the cenotes where Mexico's cave training takes place. Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula is the most famous place in the world to learn cave diving. The cenotes of the Riviera Maya — around Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Akumal and Puerto Aventuras — lead into Sac Actun and Ox Bel Ha, among the longest known underwater cave systems, with warm fresh water, exceptional visibility and a large, experienced instructor community. Daylight cavern zones let you progress from cavern to full cave in the same systems, and the haloclines where fresh water meets salt are unlike diving anywhere else.

Cave diving is year-round: cenote temperature and visibility barely change with the season. Hurricane season (June to November) can disrupt travel and ocean diving, and heavy rain can briefly reduce visibility near cenote entrances.
Cenotes stay around 24–25°C all year. That feels warm at first, but on long cave dives many divers wear a 5 mm wetsuit or a drysuit. The Caribbean is roughly 26°C in winter to 29°C in summer.
