The Cave Diving Section of the National Speleological Society is a cave-diving-specific certifying body, founded in 1973 out of NSS cave-diving members' meetings and chaired first by Sheck Exley. It has been the world's largest cave diving training organization since the late 1970s, running its own dedicated cavern-through-full-cave progression rather than a broad multi-discipline technical catalog.
