German Yanez

Yanez runs Yucatech Expeditions from Cozumel and is an NSS-CDS cave instructor with more than twenty years of cave exploration behind him — a recognised figure in Mexican cave exploration, credited with discovering new cave species, and a DUI equipment ambassador. The forum record is unusually long-dated: one poster holds cavern-through-full-cave certifications he issued on Cozumel around 1996, and threads discussing him run from the mid-2000s through to recent trip-planning posts that still recommend him by name for cenote training and diving. Students describe him as the person who first took them into the overhead, and he teaches technical diving and technical instruction on Cozumel as well as cave. Two things are worth knowing. Most of what is written about him is historical rather than recent, as you would expect several decades into a career. And forum opinion about him is not unanimous: there is at least one substantial thread of criticism, which is worth reading before you book.
