Search and Recovery Instructor
This course trains instructors to certify river divers in a specialized environment course covering current management, silt-out procedures, upstream and downstream line work, and safety protocols specific to flowing-water diving. Instructors master river physics and current prediction, navigation and positioning in flowing water, line-work and tether management, silt-avoidance and bailout procedures, site assessment for river conditions, and teaching methodologies for building student comfort in moving water. River diving requires profoundly different thinking than static-environment diving. River Diver Instructors often specialize in regions with commercial opportunities (dam work, rescue, archaeological sites) and attract students seeking adventure in non-traditional environments.
Prerequisites
Minimum 18 years old; RAID Open Water Instructor certification; RAID Divemaster certification (when teaching applicable courses); currently certified as a diver in the River Diver specialty; complete registration with mandatory documentation.
