About

TDI Instructor Trainer and the instructor behind Diver by Design on Gozo, affiliated with Atlantis Diving Centre. He learned to dive in 2002 in Egypt, Thailand, the Maldives and the Caribbean, became an instructor in 2012 after several years diving cold UK water, qualified as a full cave diver in 2013, reached Advanced Trimix Diver Instructor with TDI and PADI TecRec in 2017, became a full cave instructor in 2019 and an instructor trainer in 2022. He teaches TDI, SDI and PADI courses plus the Sidemount Essentials course from sidemounting.com, which he is one of a small number of instructors licensed to deliver, and guides privately in Gozo, Malta and Mexico. His stated approach is to tailor each course rather than fit divers into fixed boxes — knowing when to push, when to listen and when to let a diver self-correct.

Proud teaches TDI out of Diver by Design in Malta. One detailed review covers a group of four running Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures and Helitrox with him, with Chris Godlewski brought in as co-instructor for the group size. What that reviewer rates is the balance — foundations strengthened first, complexity added to the training dives afterwards — plus the theory and briefings, and extensive video debriefs after every dive with the footage handed over to keep. He reports the training transferring: demanding, properly planned dives back home afterwards. Only one student has written about him publicly so far, so ask for references.
