Young teaches sidemount, intro to tech and cave out of North Florida Cave Training in Fort White, and has two detailed ScubaBoard course reports, both from divers who came to him specifically to fix skills earlier training had left alone. Both describe the same thing: a strict instructor without the ego. One student was told up front he might be held back rather than certified, and read that as the instructor taking training seriously; he was then walked through not just the corrections but the reasons for them, for as long as it took, and the day-one and day-four video comparison was, in his words, a completely different diver. The other credits Young with diagnosing as rig problems what he had assumed were technique problems — switching him to aluminium cylinders for a balanced rig and having him in near-perfect trim by day two. Both reports use the same phrase in different words: he holds a high standard without being unpleasant about it, and both students booked their next course with him.
