Robin Cuesta

Cuesta founded Sulawesi Dive Trek in October 2019, the first full cave dive centre in Indonesia, after two years teaching in Bali and a long stretch surveying more than 150 caves across Buton and Wakatobi in Southeast Sulawesi. That exploration is the business: the caves he teaches in are largely ones he found. Google reviews carry some of the strongest individual praise of anyone in the Indonesian listings — divers calling him hands-down the best instructor they have trained under, citing clear and honest communication and meticulous attention to detail through full cave training, with safety raised alongside the teaching rather than as an afterthought. The logistics come up nearly as often, which makes sense for cave diving in a part of Indonesia with no infrastructure for it: transport, remote sites and the running of the trip are handled, and reviewers notice. In the forums he is one of the two or three names given whenever somebody asks where to train in cave in Asia, usually alongside Halim of Rock n Roll Divers and SF Chong — the pool of instructors is genuinely that small. He is also co-developing a lightweight sidemount rig, the Java system. In May 2026 he joined the volunteer dive team Mikko Paasi assembled for the flooded mine in Xaisomboun province, Laos, searching the system alongside Audita Harsono and Yoshitaka Isaji; the effort was covered by ABC News and Divernet among others.
