Marc Crane

Crane has been a full-time diving professional since 1995 and moved to Indonesia in 2011, where he founded Tekdeep Asia on Bali and teaches across the archipelago and the wider region. He is a TDI and SSI instructor trainer whose focus is rebreathers, teaching instructors up to and including advanced trimix, and he has located and explored new cave systems in Sulawesi alongside work on marine megafauna research projects. Rebreathers are what he is named for. When ScubaBoard maps out where in the world to train on a unit, Tekdeep Asia is listed across an unusually wide range of units, and in threads about choosing a first rebreather he is one of a handful of instructors named by name. His reviews bear that out and are unusually emphatic at the top end: a diver completing Extended Range CCR Trimix calls it "one of the best, most challenging learning experiences I've had yet", and adds that he "wouldn't trust anyone but Marc with my CCR training". Others describe returning across several years as their own technical diving develops on both open and closed circuit, and note that he is patient with divers who still have a lot to learn while being genuinely rigorous once the level rises — several say plainly that he can teach well at any level, which is a harder thing than it sounds. He teaches around Amed and Tulamben, and the operation itself is repeatedly described as professional and well run, with the wider team named as often as he is.
