Alberto Salvini

Salvini co-founded Pluto Dive in Playa del Carmen with Barbara Biasi around 2006 and has taught in the Riviera Maya since 2003. He is an IANTD Technical Cave Instructor Trainer (#7748, all open-circuit levels) and IANTD board member, a TDI technical and cave instructor, and — by the shop's own description, corroborated by others who write about the region — an authority on the history of cave exploration in these systems. He runs the shop's sidemount programme and teaches through technical cave, sidemount and stage diving, and Pluto Dive caps classes at five students per instructor as a training policy. The clearest student account is a guided dive at Cenote Dream Gate, where the diver singles him out as the highlight — "incredibly professional, patient, and deeply knowledgeable", with a passion for cave diving that visibly shows. Most of the shop's reviews are about recreational cenote and reef diving with other guides, and few students have written about his technical or cave courses, so ask for references from recent course students.
